Abacus wins NASA information management contract

Abacus Technology Corp. will provide NASA with information technology support, including voice communications and visual imaging, under a new contract that could be worth as much as $898 million over five years.

The management and communications support work will take place at Kennedy Space Center in Florida. The one-year contract begins October 1 and has four one-year options.

Abacus will provide resources, including management, personnel, equipment and supplies, to support Kennedy's voice communications, visual imaging, transmission and cable systems, administrative phones, institutional computer networks, network IT security, publications, and computer services.

Some services also may be provided to the Air Force at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station and Patrick Air Force Base.

Abacus, a provider of enterprise information and business services, is based in Chevy Chase, Md.

QinetiQ North America is a major subcontractor on the project. QinetiQ estimated that its portion of the contract would be worth $225 million over nine years.
