DLA picks Lowry for RFID printers

Lowry Computer Products Inc. has won a five-year, $8.5 million contract from the Defense Logistics Agency to provide the Defense Distribution Center with printers able to print radio frequency identification labels.

The Brighton, Mich.-based reseller will deliver printers from Printronix, one of its suppliers.

The contract illustrates the Defense Department's progress in the adoption and implementation of RFID technologies, said Steve Lowry, executive vice president at Lowry.

Lowry will supply Printronix SL4M RFID printers. The four-inch printer is designed for industrial and commercial applications.

The Defense Distribution Center is pursuing full deployment for internal and external use of passive RFID functionality at all its sites worldwide.
