WV firm gets Patent Office contract

HMS Technologies Inc., a small business based in Martinsburg, W.Va., will provide business and financial management support to the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office under a contract worth as much as $9.5 million over five years.

The contract, issued under the General Services Administration schedule, is the first USPTO award for the company, a service-disabled veteran-owned firm.

Grant Thornton LLP, a longtime HMS partner, will be a subcontractor on the contract.

"USPTO is an entirely new client for the HMS team," said Harry Siegel, the company's president and chief executive officer.

Under the contract, HMS' responsibilities include financial management, project management, contract performance management, risk management and strategic planning.

HMS will also play a supporting role in assisting the agency's budget and finance staff with budget and resource management, and activity-based management model support.
