M/A-Com wins Ill. county radio system deal

M/A-Com has won an $11.2 million contract to provide a digital radio system to support the public safety communication needs of Peoria County, Ill.

Under the contract, M/A-Com of Lowell, Mass., will supply its IP-based OpenSky digital private radio system to the county, which intends the system to serve as the interoperable backbone for all of its public safety communication needs.

The county's Emergency Telephone System Board awarded the contract.

M/A-Com said the county chose OpenSky because it can handle radio traffic during large and small emergencies, it supports voice and data traffic, and it can connect to Illinois' statewide public safety radio network.

M/A-Com, a provider of public safety systems and equipment, is a unit of Tyco Electronics Ltd. of Berwyn, Pa.
