Harris buys Zandar Technologies

Harris Corp. has bought Zandar Technologies, a provider of high-quality, multi-image display processors for television broadcast and professional video markets. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The purchase expands the Melbourne, Fla.-based communications and information technology company's offerings in the multi-image video display market. Specifically, it provides Harris with new opportunities and puts it in a leadership position in a growing worldwide market, company officials said.

"Zandar's compact, scalable systems, such as the new Predator II and QS100 series introduced at IBC, combined with the larger-format Harris Centro systems, represent a great complement of product lines and an excellent platform for future growth through market expansion," said Tim Thornstein, president of Harris Broadcast Communications.

Zandar of Dublin, Ireland, was founded in 1993. Its system are used to construct virtual display walls for master control and situation rooms and broadcast trucks, and provide centralized video and audio monitoring, as well as alarms and corrective action. Its customers include commercial businesses, such as BBC and ESPN, and government agencies such as the FBI.

Harris ranks No. 21 on Washington Technology's 2007 Top 100 list of the largest federal government prime contractors.
