Unisys to install surveillance system in Philadelphia
Unisys Corp. will help install a video surveillance system in Philadelphia.
Unisys Corp. will help install a video surveillance system in Philadelphia under a one-year, $8.9 million contract.
Unisys will serve as prime contractor on the managed-services engagement to install, integrate and support a network-enabled video surveillance system for the city.
The system will be used for the city's public safety and citizen-services initiatives. It will enable the Philadelphia Police Department to store and retrieve video images for criminal investigation. The Philadelphia police will monitor the cameras.
"Deploying this system citywide will help our police force monitor street activity and help expand the city's capability to identify and prosecute criminal suspects," said Mayor John Street.
Under the contract, Unisys will deploy 250 video surveillance cameras at city government-selected outdoor locations. The cameras will capture images and send them via a secure wide-area network to the city's central monitoring facility. An online storage system will maintain those images for forensic evaluation.
The one-year contract has three one-year options. Under the options, the city can order deployment of an additional 250 cameras and continue support services.
Unisys and partners will provide a range of managed services, including deployment, integration and support of the entire video monitoring infrastructure, from cameras to servers and storage systems.
Unisys of Blue Bell, Pa., ranks No. 27 on Washington Technology's 2007 Top 100 list of the largest federal government prime contractors.
