Army officials are surveying industry for systems that could help revamp the service's automated contract-writing processes, according to a request for information published yesterday on the Federal Business Opportunities Web site.
According to the notice, service officials are looking for commercial solutions already on the market or currently in development. Officials say they will give "major consideration" to the results of an ongoing study on the utility of Web- based systems to replace legacy software.
As an example of this class of systems, the notice cites the CACI-made Procurement Desktop-Defense software, named "PD2," which is part of the Defense Department's Standard Procurement System suite of applications.
Two Army contractors, STG Inc. and Technical and Program Engineering LLC, are conducting a business case analysis to determine if the service should move to a new system or keep the old one.
During the system selection process, the PD2 software will be treated "merely as a potential alternate solution," the notice states.
