Cubic to support Army Quartermaster instruction

Cubic Corp. has won a five-year, $30 million contract from the Army Quartermaster Center and School at Fort Lee, Va., to design and manage training and educational support activities.

Cubic Applications Inc., a Cubic defense unit, will provide field, classroom, computer and hands-on training at the quartermaster school, which has an annual enrollment of about 26,000 U.S. and international military personnel.

CAI-led instruction will cover Army management information systems; safekeeping and distribution procedures for all types of supplies, including aerial delivery and air drops; storage, transport and distribution of fuel and water; and culinary courses for Army and Marine Corps cooks.

The contract significantly increases the company's presence at Fort Lee, Cubic said, where there is potential for future growth as a result of the 2005 Base Realignment and Closure decision to relocate Army ordnance, transportation and munitions training facilities there.

Cubic has been aggressively pursuing logistics-related business for the past two years, said Jim Balentine, president and chief executive of CAI. He said the Army Quartermaster Center and School contract is its first prime competitive award captured in head-to-head competition with established logistics contractors.

Cubic Corp. of San Diego ranks No. 83 on Washington Technology's 2007 Top 100 list of the largest federal government prime contractors.
