CSC wins NASA supercomputer services deal

Computer Sciences Corp. has won a 10-year, $597 million contract from NASA to provide support services for the space agency's top supercomputing facilities.

The cost-plus-award-fee contract consists of a two-year base period and eight one-year options.

CSC's Lanham, Md., facility will provide supercomputing services to NASA's Advanced Supercomputing Division at the Ames Research Center, Moffitt Field, Calif., which operates some of the largest, most advanced supercomputers in the world and is the main NASA facility for high-performance computing.

The company will also provide similar support and high-performance computing research to the NASA Center for Computational Sciences at the Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Md.

The centers provide the computational capability that power NASA's space missions and facilitate its advancements in science and engineering.

NASA said CSC may also offer high-performance computing support to other NASA field centers as needed, if the options are exercised.

CSC of El Segundo, Calif., ranks No. 11 on Washington Technology's 2007 Top 100 list of the largest federal government prime contractors.
