Alion gets Navy contract extension

The Navy has awarded Alion Science and Technology Corp. a $25 million contract option to provide program management expertise to support the Navy's Program Executive Office for Ships.

Alion is providing support to the office's Fleet Support Directorate, helping the directorate with planning and execution of ship maintenance and modernization activities.

The one-year contract option includes engineering, logistics, business and financial management and technical support.

This is the second option year on a contract valued at $325 million and awarded in April 2003. Award terms require Alion to be evaluated annually to determine if the customer wants to proceed with another year of support.

The Naval Sea Systems Command is the contracting authority.

The Fleet Support Directorate of Program Executive Office for Ships is responsible for the lifecycle management of all surface ship classes in the Navy. This responsibility includes integrated planning, programming and execution of the fleet modernization program, along with technical and logistics support to maintain, modernize and improve the performance of surface ships.

There are 24 subcontractors on the Alion team and more than 200 personnel are supporting the program.
