The National Archives and Records Administration wants to make sure its information is safe in the event of a disaster.The agency wants to buy response-and-recovery services to deal with natural disasters, accidents or terrorist attacks. The contract would cover a wide array of media, including paper-based records, film, magnetic tape and computer files in various formats.NARA has archives in 21 states, each facing different threats from natural disasters.CDW Government Inc., En Pointe Technologies Inc. and Softmart Inc. won blanket purchase agreements under the General Services Administration's SmartBuy program to sell a McAfee Inc. security package and related services to government agencies.The agreements were reached in December 2006 but were only recently announced.The awards mean civilian and defense agencies may purchase all McAfee anti-spyware, antivirus, anti-spam, firewall, and intrusion-prevention software at discounted prices through the resellers.Harris Corp. has set its sights on two large-scale satellite support contracts from the Air Force and National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.Harris' team includes Lockheed Martin Information Technology, L-3 Communications Titan Group, Faith Enterprises Inc., ASRC Aerospace Corp., Arctic Slope World Services Corp., Nortel Government Solutions Inc. and Gunther Douglas Inc.The team will compete for a six-and-a-half year, $455 million network and space operations and maintenance contract that calls for operations and maintenance support to the 50th Space Wing's Air Force Satellite Control Network, based in Colorado Springs, Colo.Harris also is bidding on NOAA's Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite-Series R program.CACI International Inc. named Dale Luddeke executive vice president of its business development organization.Luddeke comes to CACI from Computer Sciences Corp. where he recently was vice president and general manager of the national security and foreign affairs unit. CACI President Paul Cofoni also is an alumnus of CSC.At CACI, Luddeke will play a key role in the company's expansion plans in national security, intelligence and homeland security.The Defense Department and the General Services Administration issued a request for quotations for full-disk encryption or a file/folder encryption system under the government's SmartBuy enterprise software management program.Released under GSA's e-Buy program, the RFQ asks vendors on the GSA schedule to submit a price quotation for implementing, maintaining, integrating and training people to use encryption software for data at rest.Sprint Nextel Corp. will not protest its loss of Networx Universal, a major telecommunciations services contract that GSA awarded to three Sprint competitors in late March.GSA held a debriefing for Sprint earlier this month, and the company saw nothing to object to, said Tony D'Agata, vice president of Sprint's federal government business unit. The company knew its pricing was slightly higher than some of the winning companies and has chosen to pin its hopes on Networx Enterprise, the other contracts in the Networx program, which GSA expects to award in May.GSA awarded the Universal contract to Qwest Government Services, AT&T and Verizon Business Services.
