Washington Technology wins second Neal award

A May 2006 issue of Washington Technology with an international theme won a Jesse H. Neal National Business Journalism Award today at the Neal luncheon held by the American Business Media.

This is the second consecutive year that Washington Technology has won the award for best single issue.

Washington Technology's May 29 print issue won in the Single Best Issue of a Newpaper/News Tabloid category. The magazine also was a finalist in the categories for Special Issue and Best News Coverage categories.

"We've got a great team at Washington Technology, so it is very gratifying to be recognized with the best single issue award and these two very important nominations," said Editor Nick Wakeman, adding, "Everyone on the staff works hard to understand the marketplace and deliver value to our readers."

The May 29 issue featured an article by deputy editor William Welsh on transportation technologies deployed globally, as well as an article on cultural differences of biometric usage by staff writer Alice Lipowicz. Staff writer Doug Beizer penned an article on data encryption that traced its roots back to World War II.

The magazine was nominated in the Special Issue category for its May 15 Top 100 issue, which ranks the largest contractors in the federal market, as well as for Best News Coverage for Lipowicz's reporting on the Secure Border Initiative Network throughout the year.

American Business Media, based in New York, is a national association of business-to-business information providers. This is the 53rd year of the Neal awards, which recognize excellence in journalism.

Washington Technology competes in the category for publications with revenues of up to $3 million.
