EFJ to enhance Navy vessel boarding system

A subsidiary of EFJ Inc. won a contract from the Navy to further improve a vessel boarding inspection system.

Under the contract, 3eTechnologies International will deliver additional enhancements to a secure wireless mesh network it developed for Navy personnel to use during vessel inspections.

The network provides continuous communication between inspection personnel boarding foreign vessels and the Navy's host ship. The contract is valued at $1.2 million, the company said.

"Inspecting foreign ships entering U.S. waters is an essential component of homeland security," said Michael Jalbert, chairman and CEO of EFJ. He said that the mesh network solution helps streamline the inspection process, protect personnel and communicate vital information in real-time.

EFJ of Irving, Texas, is the parent company to several wireless providers, including 3e Technologies International, EFJohnson Co. and Transcrypt International.
