Nevada Gov. Jim Gibbons has appointed Daniel Stockwell to serve as director of the state's IT department and state CIO.
Nevada Gov. Jim Gibbons has appointed Daniel Stockwell, an IT manager with 43 years' experience in the field of information technology, to serve as director of the state's IT department and state CIO. Stockwell replaces outgoing state CIO Terry Savage.
Stockwell was most recently deputy chief for the Nevada Department of Information Technology's application design and development group. In that capacity, he oversaw software development for more than 50 agency boards and commissions.
He began his career in the information and technologies field as data processing manager for the Nevada Air National Guard. Stockwell went on to establish a private business partnership with IBM Corp. and help develop computer systems for the state's hotels and casinos before working nine years for the state's IT department.
Stockwell plans to expand services and set a new direction for Nevada's IT department, he said a statement from the governor's office announcing his appointment.
"As director, I will make it a priority to being evaluating the department's current capabilities, allowing us to maximize our efficiency and improve our ability to deliver services to the taxpayers in a cost-effective and fiscally responsible manner," Stockwell said in the statement.
