EDS wins Arkansas women's health care claims work

Low-income women in Arkansas who suffer from breast and cervical cancer can continue to rely on EDS Corp. to remind them of their appointment times and process their treatment claims.

EDS of Plano, Texas, won a contract renewal from the Arkansas Health and Human Services Department's Division of Health to serve as fiscal agent for the state's breast and cervical cancer treatment program. The one-year, $12.7 million contract has six one-year options, the company said.

Terms of the contract call for EDS, which has held the original cancer treatment contract since 1999, to handle eligibility for women seeking to enroll in the state's BreastCare program. EDS then sets appointments for qualified patients and contacts them regarding upcoming appointments.

The company also will follow up with service providers to make sure patients get the required care, and then process claims for payment.

EDS, as part of the program requirements from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, which funds breast and cervical cancer programs in each state, also captures and compiles statistical data for CDC.

The company also serves as the fiscal agent for Arkansas's Medicaid program since 1985.

EDS is the fiscal agent for 20 states' Medicaid programs. It had about $19.8 billion in fiscal 2005 revenue, and ranks No. 9 on Washington Technology's 2006 Top 100 list of the largest federal IT contractors.
