General Dynamics to boost communications at Hood

General Dynamics Corp. will upgrade the Army's communications and data network infrastructure at Fort Hood, Texas, through a two-year contract worth $23 million.

Under the contract, General Dynamics IT of Fairfax, Va., will work to improve the administrative communications system and voice network infrastructure, including a fiber-optic transport network that adheres to industry standards.

The improved communications network will support the Army III Corps and the entire garrison. The Army awarded the contract through its Digital Switched Systems Modernization Program, which is part of a larger, multiyear initiative to deliver greater bandwidth to meet the growing demand for voice, video and data services.

The company said it is working on similar programs at Fort Bliss, Texas, and Fort Carson, Colo., and overseas in Germany, Iraq, Korean and Kuwait.

General Dynamics of Falls Church, Va., has 72,700 employees and had annual revenue of $21.2 billion in fiscal 2005. The company ranks No. 4 on Washington Technology's 2006 Top 100 list of the largest federal IT contractors.
