ITAA names Bond president

Phillip Bond, senior vice president of government relations at Monster Government Solutions Inc., has been named president and CEO of the Information Technology Association of America, the group announced this morning. Washington Technology reported on Friday that Bond had been offered the position. Bond brings to the group an extensive background in government service and a keen understanding of technology policy issues, said David Sanders, president of commercial solutions with Perot Systems Corp., and ITAA chairman."We are very pleased to have Phil join us, and we look forward to working with him to move ITAA and the industry's agenda forward," Sanders said.Bond replaces Robert Laurence, vice president of public sector for Sybase Inc., Dublin, Calif., who was serving as the interim president after Harris Miller stepped down from the post in January to run for a Senate seat in Virginia. Miller lost the Democratic primary election Tuesday to James Webb.Miller had been the president of ITAA for the past 10-and-a-half years. Before that, he ran a consulting and lobbying company in Washington.Before joining Monster Government Solutions, McLean, Va., in April 2005, Bond served for four years as undersecretary of technology for the Commerce Department. Before that, he served from 2002 to 2003 as chief of staff to Commerce Secretary Donald Evans. Before moving to Commerce, Bond was director of federal public policy for Hewlett-Packard Co., Palo Alto, Calif.After earning his bachelor's degree in communications from Linfield College in Oregon, Bond began his career at the Rockey Co., an independent public relations agency in Seattle.Bond then moved on to public service, where he took over as chief of staff to former Rep. Bob McEwen (R-Ohio), then served in the same capacity for Rep. Jennifer Dunn (R-W.Va.). After serving Dunn, Bond became the principal deputy assistant of legislative affairs to Secretary of Defense Dick Cheney.Before joining Hewlett-Packard, Bond spent three years as senior vice president of government affairs and treasurer for the Information Technology Industry Council in Washington.Lorraine Lavet, managing director for Northern Virginia at the executive search company Korn/Ferry International, Los Angeles, led the search for the new ITAA president.ITAA is an industry trade group that offers its members public policy, business development and peer-to-peer networking programs. The association has more than 350 corporate members in the United States.
