BearingPoint arranges U.K. Defense Ministry data warehouse

BearingPoint Inc. won a three-year contract, potentially worth $9.2 million, to develop an enterprise data warehouse for the United Kingdom's Defense Logistics Organization.

The Defense Logistics Organization, part of the U.K. Defense Ministry, wants a centralized data repository for logistics management information. The project's goal is to create a warehouse of data for all defense logistics information users.

The data warehouse will pull together information from many logistics systems that support rotary and fixed-wing aircraft fleets for the Royal air force, Royal navy and army. It also will be able to support land platforms and whole fleet management.

The warehouse, once completed, will be able to merge data from both operational domains and from other domains, such as finance and human resources, letting operational commanders and defense logistics managers share information about their situations in battle.

The data warehouse will be based on technology from Teradata, a Dayton, Ohio, company that produces data warehousing software, and include advanced business intelligence tools and Web access.

The initial contract is worth about $3.7 million, but could reach $9.2 million if all options are exercised. BearingPoint will work with project teams from the DLO and Defense Procurement Agency.
