BAE names Belair to lead tech services business

BAE Systems has selected Douglas Belair to head its newly reorganized technology solutions and services unit.

Belair joined BAE Systems in 2002. Most recently, he served as vice president and general manager of the company's performance-based solutions line of business, where he oversaw work on U.S. and U.K. Trident Fleet Ballistic Missile programs.

Belair will lead an organization with nearly 6,500 employees at more than 50 locations throughout the United States. The TSS unit offers systems engineering and technical assistance, subsystems integration, operations and maintenance, and logistics.

To meet customer needs, the company recently consolidated the TSS unit from five lines of business to three larger, more strategic organizations: systems engineering solutions, integrated technical solutions and ordinance systems.

Northrop Grumman Corp. began a similar technical services consolidation in January when it drew upon seven separate business sectors to form a technical services sector to address logistics support, sustainment and technical services markets.

Belair has held various engineering and management positions with GE, Lockheed Martin Corp. and General Dynamics Corp. He holds a bachelor's degree in computer science from Fitchburg State College in Massachusetts, and a master's of business administration degree from Purdue University.
