I.D. Systems lands Postal Service wireless management work

I.D. Systems Inc. received orders from the U.S. Postal Service to deploy its wireless asset management system at 16 additional postal facilities around the nation.

With the new orders, there are 38 Wireless Asset Net systems in use at postal facilities. Under the three-year contract, up to 460 USPS facilities can order Wireless Asset Net. The latest orders are worth about $5.6 million.

The Hackensack, N.J., company's Wireless Asset Net consists of intelligent wireless devices installed on powered industrial vehicles, such as fork-lift trucks and pallet movers, a patented communication infrastructure, and client-server software for access control, use analysis and real-time location tracking.

The system is designed to improve industrial workplace safety and security by restricting vehicle access to trained, authorized operators and by providing electronic safety inspection checklists. The system also reduces maintenance costs by uploading automatically vehicle data, reporting problems in real time and giving management the option of scheduling maintenance according to actual vehicle usage rather than on a calendar basis.

Further, the system helps plant management determine the optimal economic time to replace equipment and furnishes management with reports on vehicle use.
