Ericsson buys Marconi Communications Federal

Ericsson has acquired Marconi Communications Federal Inc., a networking and telecom firm, in a move designed to expand the company's networking and telecommunications offerings to the U.S. government.

Ericsson has acquired Marconi Communications Federal Inc., a networking and telecom firm. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The acquisition expands Ericsson's offerings of networking and telecommunications solutions and services to the U.S. government, the company said in a statement announcing the deal.

The unit, which will remain in Columbia, Md., has been renamed Ericsson Federal Inc. It will be led by Ralph Havens, former president of Marconi Communications Federal. Doug Smith will continue as vice president and general manager of Ericsson's Government Solutions unit.

Ericsson Inc. of Plano, Texas, is the U.S. subsidiary of Swedish-based Ericsson. The company provides global wireless infrastructure equipment, including antennas, transmitters, switching systems and other gear products used to build wireless networks.
