Technology for disaster response on display at FOSE

From disaster planning solutions to disaster recovery applications, technology aimed and responding to emergencies dotted the Washington Convention Center floor at the FOSE 2006 show in the nation's capital.FOSE is produced by PostNewsweek Tech Media, the parent company of Washington Technology.Polycom Inc., for example, had a number of its solutions displayed under a portable canopy alongside a field cot set up at FOSE. The company's Mobile Responder videoconferencing system is designed for first responders, emergency managers, homeland security officials, police, firefighters and others.It is a rugged, compact, transportable videoconferencing solution with a an extra large built-in display, camera, microphone and speaker. It meets Federal Aviation Administration guidelines for carry-on baggage on commercial airliners and is easy to move and set up.The Mobile Responder also includes an IP network interface and AES encryption. When plugged into a projector, it can handle a large room or group conferences.Just a few booths over was Tandberg's rugged, mobile videoconferencing unit, the Tactical MXP. Produced for military and civilian personnel, the portable video communication tool is designed to be used in remote and extreme conditions. The integrated video system is housed in a heavy-duty, watertight case and meets most airline luggage carry-on requirements.It can be used to join up to four video and three audio sites with embedded MultiSite functionality. It has standards-based embedded encryption and also supports IPv6.
