OSI wins Office of Naval Research intelligence software deal

Offshore Systems International Ltd. won a contract from the U.S. Office of Naval Research to provide software for a system capable of making decisions and solving problems ordinarily done by military analysts.

Under the $1.1 million contract, OSI of Vancouver, Canada, will provide software for a system that will be patterned after the way humans perform analytic and perceptual problems.

The system, known as Situation and Threat Updates for Real Net-centric teams, will address a number of high-level interpretation or information fusion problems that currently require human analysis to correctly interpret situations and make predictions.

"This contract provides us with an opportunity to diversify our current product offering by building technical expertise in areas of growing military importance, including high-level data and automated fusion analysis," Ken Kirkpatrick, OSI's president and CEO said in a statement announcing the award.

OSI delivers systems and software for enhanced situational awareness in command, control and intelligence applications for the commercial, defense and homeland security markets.

By providing tactical and geospatial information, the company's systems and software help decision makers know the precise location of mission operations across military forces while integrating information with allies.
