Alion wins Navy joint operations training work

The U.S. Joint Forces Command will rely on Alion Science and Technology Corp. to carry out research and development of technologies to improve simulation and training for joint operations.

Alion of McLean, Va., won a five-year, $48.5 million contract from the Naval Air Systems Command in Orlando, Fla., to conduct research to assist in both current and future joint operations.

Terms of the contract call for Alion to conduct research and development in individual and small unit infantry training, situational awareness capability, and training technology for distributed and joint systems. The company also will furnish sensor simulation technology, visual simulation technology, information management for modeling and simulation and simulation networking.

The majority of the work called for will be completed by Alion and its team in Suffolk, Va. Alion's teammates include Science Applications International Corp.; Lockheed Martin Simulation, Training and Support; L-3 Communications?Titan Corp.; Koam Engineering Systems Inc.; Nakuru Software Inc.; Soar Technology Inc.; Geo Spatial Technologies Inc.; and Toyon Research Corp.

Alion, which has about 1,700 employees and had annual revenues of $369.2 million in fiscal 2005, ranks No. 63 on Washington Technology's 2005 Top 100 list of federal prime contractors.
