M/A-Com wins Pa. county public safety deal

M/A-Com won a $30 million contract to build and implement a public safety radio communications system for York County, Pa.

The system will include a 22-site UHF digital trunked public safety radio network, a 16-site digital paging network, mutual aid base stations, a radio dispatch console system, M/A-COM P25 radio equipment and an alarm and control system.

The P25 simulcast configuration uses global positioning system receivers at both the control and transmit sites to maintain timing.

The system will give York County public safety workers the ability to communicate reliably during emergency situations, the company said.

M/A-Com has two major partners on the project. Alcatel North America of Owosso, Mich., will construct the digital microwave connectivity to support M/A-Com's system. JG Contracting Co. of Pittsburgh will conduct site development services at the York County Emergency Services Center and Long Term Backup Facility.

M/A-Com of Lowell, Mass., is a unit of Tyco Electronics Corp., which is one of five business segments of Tyco International Ltd., Princeton, N.J. The parent company has more than 250,000 employees and had annual sales of $40 billion in fiscal 2005.
