Herring to head AT&T's government unit

Telecommunications industry veteran Don Herring will become president of AT&T Government Solutions Inc. on March 1, replacing Lou Addeo.

For most of last year, Herring was part of an executive team planning the integration of the sales organization of the former AT&T Corp. and SBC Communications Inc., which completed its $16 billion purchase of AT&T in November 2005.

Herring has worked for AT&T for 20 years. Most recently, he was vice president of AT&T Government Solutions responsible for its professional services division. Before that, he was vice president in charge of midsize business accounts and from 1999 to 2003, he was Mid-Atlantic regional vice president for AT&T Business Services.

Herring replaces Lou Addeo, president of AT&T Government Solutions since May 2003, who is retiring after 33 years with the company. Addeo is credited with steadily boosting revenue at the 4,000-person unit, which was the fastest growing part of AT&T last year.

Addeo previously was vice president of AT&T Government Solutions and early in his career managed several of the company's largest and most strategic commercial outsourcing deals.

AT&T Government Solutions of Vienna, Va., provides telecom and IT services to the federal government. Its parent company, AT&T Inc. is headquartered in San Antonio.
