Navy taps General Dynamics for combat systems middleware

General Dynamics Corp. won a $6.7 million task order from the Navy to provide the open systems integration of middleware software using commercial products.

The task order was issued under a five-year contract potentially worth $65 million, which allows orders to be placed for commercial processing, communication and networking solutions for Navy sensor, weapons and combat systems.

General Dynamics' advanced information systems business unit will perform the work in Fairfax, Va., and Kauai, Hawaii. The work is expected to be completed in November 2007.

General Dynamics of Falls Church, Va., provides mission-critical information systems and technologies, combat systems, armaments and munitions, shipbuilding and marine systems and business aviation to federal and commercial clients.

The company has about 70,900 employees worldwide and had 2004 revenue of $19.2 billion. General Dynamics is No. 5 on Washington Technology's 2005 Top 100 list of federal prime contractors.
