Wagner to become FAS acting chief

The General Services Administration has tapped Marty Wagner to be acting commissioner of the agency's new Federal Acquisition Service after Barbara Shelton steps down from the post next month.

Wagner will take over Shelton's role Dec. 21, GSA said. Shelton is expected to return to her role as the administrator for GSA's Mid-Atlantic region, a position she held before coming to Washington.

Shelton's departure was widely expected after former GSA administrator Stephen Perry left the agency earlier this month.

Shelton came to Washington in February as acting commissioner for the Federal Technology Service before taking over FAS in June 2005 when the agency, under Perry's leadership, merged FTS with the Federal Supply Service.

Wagner takes over at FAS after a 10-year stint as GSA's associate administrator for governmentwide policy. Before that, he was a deputy commissioner in GSA's Information Resources Management Service.

John Sindelar, deputy associate administrator for the Office of Governmentwide Policy, will assume Wagner's current position on an acting basis.
