BearingPoint tapped by Navy for IT transformation work

BearingPoint has won a $3.3 million contract from the Navy's Program Executive Office for Information Technology to support a major IT transformation initiative, the company announced this week. The one-year contract has four one-year options and a potential value of $58 million if all options are exercised.

Under the contract, BearingPoint of McLean, Va., will provide IT strategy, program development and program management to help create a Navy Enterprise IT Program Management Office.

BearingPoint will concentrate on strategy, design, development and implementation of the program management office, as well as the integration of commercial best practices within the Navy itself.

The enterprise approach will provide the Navy with significant technological and economic advantages, such as improved interoperability, reduced total operating costs and early risk identification and mitigation, the company said.

The enterprise IT program management office is an effort by the Navy to apply the same rigor and discipline to IT operations as it currently applies to weapons systems. The office will support that goal and strengthen links between the acquisition, requirements and resources communities.

BearingPoint is a provider of global management and technology consulting services. The company ranks No. 24 on Washington Technology's 2005 Top 100 list, which measures federal contracting revenue.
