EDS wins Oregon Medicaid information system deal

EDS Corp. has won a $73 million contract from Oregon to provide a Medicaid management information system, the company announced this week. The seven-year, three-month contract includes three one-year options.

Under the contract, EDSwill build and maintain a new Medicaid system that will replace a 30-year-old legacy system. The company also will provide Medicaid pharmacy benefit management services, implement a new decision-support surveillance subsystem and work with the Oregon Human Services Department to ensure compliance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act.

The system design is consistent with the Medicaid IT architecture framework established by the federal government's Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, the company said.

The Oregon Medicaid program provides healthcare benefits to about 600,000 people annually across the state through 31,000 medical service providers. The state processes more than 26 million Medicaid transactions annually.

The company also has won new MMIS contracts this year in Rhode Island, Massachusetts and Wisconsin. EDS manages Medicaid programs in 19 states.

EDS has more than 132,000 employees and annual sales of $20.6 billion. The company ranks No. 6 on Washington Technology's 2005 Top 100 list, which measures federal contracting revenue.
