Texas town taps CompuDyne for public safety work

A unit of CompuDyne Corp. has won a $1.3 million contract from the Irving, Texas, Police Department to provide an integrated public safety and criminal-justice system, the company announced this week.

Under the contract, CompuDyne Public Safety and Justice Inc. of Fremont, Calif., will provide a justice and public safety system that includes computer-aided dispatch, records management and correction management systems.

The new computer-aided dispatch system will allow police department dispatchers to manage requests for emergency services more efficiently, the records management system will consolidate and automate records processing and the correction management system will automate inmate tracking at the city jail.

In addition, the company's integrated justice solution will enable the city to transfer offender information to Dallas County when necessary.

The company has installed similar systems in other jurisdictions throughout Texas, including Fort Bend and Travis counties; the cities of Arlington, Grand Prairie and Longview; and the Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport.

CompuDyne Public Safety and Justice is a unit of CompuDyne of Annapolis, Md. The company has 725 employees and annual sales of $149 million, according to Hoover's Online of Austin, Texas.
