Transportation calls for IT support for new hazardous materials agency

The Transportation Department issued a request for program IT support services for its newly formed Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration, one of two new agencies carved out of the department's Research and Special Programs Administration. The new agency regulates the transportation of hazardous materials by highway, rail, air, pipeline and water.

The contract, which will have a one-year base and four one-year options, will provide support for the Hazardous Materials Information System, Pipeline Information Processing Enforcement System, Integrated Operator Compliance System, Online Data Entry System, agency financial and procurement applications, and the new agency's regional and field offices, Transportation said in its posting yesterday on FedBizOpps.

The systems are the primary sources of national data on hazardous material spills, annual and incident pipeline reporting data, and on regulatory activities for federal, state and local government agencies responsible for the safety of hazardous materials transportation. The pipeline and hazardous materials agency also will require data and database administration, statistical analysis through database manipulation and standard and specialized reports.
