Rockwell Collins wins Air Force GPS contract

Rockwell Collins Inc. won a $59.3 million contract modification from the Air Force to produce more than 26,000 advanced global positioning system receivers and accessories, the Defense Department said today.

The receivers are lightweight, hand-held, dual-frequency positioning systems for authorized Defense Department and foreign military sales service users of GPS equipment. The system incorporates a next-generation, tamper-resistant security module.

The advanced receivers will replace the precision lightweight GPS receiver in integrated platforms. Rockwell Collins' government systems division will complete the work by April 2006.

Based in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Rockwell Collins makes aviation electronics and communications equipment for commercial and military aircraft. The company employs about 16,000 people and had revenue of $2.9 billion in 2004. It is No. 27 on Washington Technology's 2004 Top 100 List of federal prime contractors.
