DHS wants better bomb detectors

The Homeland Security Advanced Research Projects Agency seeks prototypes and technology for improvised explosive devise detection systems. The agency wants proposals for systems to detect explosives in large vehicles, cars or other small vehicles.

The technologies should be usable at tollbooths and staging areas for ferry boarding as well as for random inspections of vehicles in garages, parking lots and at curbside.The agency also seeks proposals for projects to advance the sensitivity, selectivity, standoff distance and remote detection capability of current systems in various applications, including the detection of leave-behind packages, vehicles and suicide bombers.
