Cubic to support defense transformation efforts

Cubic Corp. won a four-year $10.3 million task order from the Defense Department's Defense Threat Reduction Agency to provide technical services for the agency's transformation activities, the company said yesterday.

As part of agency's transformation project, called the Joint Concept Development and Experimentation (T-JCDE) program, Cubic will provide on-site assistance for various offices of the Joint Forces Command, the Defense Department organization spearheading its transformation efforts. These offices include to the J-9 Joint Experimentation Directorate; the J-7 Joint Training Directorate, including the Joint National Training Capability Joint Management Office; the Joint Warfighting Center; the Joint Systems Integration Command and other offices.

The support includes integrating chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear and constructive computer-based simulations for T-JCDE activities and realistic combat training. Cubic's threat technologies division will perform the work at various locations in Northern Virginia and Suffolk, Va.

The task order was awarded under a contract that Cubic and four other companies received from the Defense Threat Reduction Agency in 2003. The other companies are Titan Corp., Applied Research Associates Inc., SRS Technologies Inc. and Science Applications International Corp. The contract has a ceiling of $1.26 billion.

Based in San Diego, Cubic makes combat-simulation training products as well as automatic fare collection systems for public mass transit authorities. The company has 5,700 employees and 2004 revenue of $722 million. It ranks No. 71 on Washington Technology's 2004 Top 100 list of federal prime contractors.
