EDS will aid in Homeland Security tech support

Electronic Data Systems Corp. has won a one-year, $6.5 million subcontract from Sytel Corp. to provide information technology infrastructure support services to the Homeland Security Department's Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency, the company announced this week.

The contract, which includes five options years, could be worth as much as $34 million if all options are exercised.

Under the subcontract, EDS of Plano, Texas, will provide IT services including planning, development, maintenance, help desk, database and operations support for a variety of critical systems.

The services support more eight different IT systems and programs, including the Enforcement Integrated Database, Enforcement Case Tracking System, Criminal Alien Investigation System, and the Deportable Alien Control System.

Besides Bethesda, Md.-based Sytel, EDS' partners on the project include Dev Technology Group Inc. of Reston, Va., and Sapient Corp. of Cambridge, Mass.

The award marks the sixth task order under the Starlight program that the Sytel-EDS team has received to support the Homeland Security Department.

The Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency, the largest investigative arm of the Homeland Security Department, is responsible for identifying and shutting down vulnerabilities in the nation's border, economic, transportation and infrastructure security. The agency investigates, books, detains and removes aliens, as well as enforces immigration laws and conducts legal work.

EDS has more than 132,000 employees and annual sales of $21.4 billion. The company ranks No. 8 on Washington Technology's 2004 Top 100 list, which measures federal contracting revenue.
