Texas Comptroller re-ups Sprint for wireless services

Sprint Corp. has won a two-year contract renewal from the Texas Comptroller to continue providing wireless technology to help collect delinquent taxes, the company announced this week. The value of the contract was not disclosed.

Sprint Government Systems Division of Herndon, Va., will provide Sprint PCS Connection Cards and wireless services that let the state's tax enforcement team in the field retrieve information to collect taxes.

The comptroller's field staff also can document collection activity and print tax information using a wireless tablet computer, Sprint PCS Connection Card and portable printer.

Sprint's wireless solution has helped the agency collect $13 million in delinquent taxes over the past 16 months, the company said.

Sprint Government Systems is a unit of Sprint Corp. of Overland Park, Kan. Sprint, a provider of integrated communications services, has about 68,200 employees and annual sales of more than $26 million.
