Harris expands FAA work with $275 million win

Harris Corp. won a $275 million contract modification from the Federal Aviation Administration to incorporate the agency's mission support services data function into its telecommunications infrastructure program, the company said today.

The contract modification brings the total estimated value of the FAA's telecommunications infrastructure program to $2.2 billion for Harris.

Harris originally won the contract in July 2002 to improve the operational functions at more than 5,000 FAA facilities nationwide.

Under the contract, Harris is replacing more than 35,000 circuits, upgrading switching and routing services, improving network monitoring and control, implementing a security system and providing engineering services. The company is also consolidating various networks into the FAA's telecommunications infrastructure.

Melbourne, Fla.-based Harris provides communications equipment primarily to the federal sector. It employs 10,300 workers and had 2003 revenue of $2.1 billion. The company is No. 16 on Washington Technology's 2004 Top 100 list of federal prime contractors.
