Lockheed Martin names Stevens CEO

Robert Stevens was appointed president and chief executive officer of Lockheed Martin Corp., the company said today.

Stevens' appointment follows the retirement of Lance Coffman, Lockheed Martin's former chief executive officer who announced March 1 that he was retiring after 37 years with the Bethesda, Md., defense company. Coffman is serving as the company's non-employee chairman until April 2005.

Stevens has held a range of executive position at Lockheed Martin, including chief operating officer, chief financial officer and head of strategic planning. His career has included experience in program management, finance, manufacturing and operations.

A native of McKeesport, Pa., Stevens graduated from Slippery Rock University in 1976. He holds master's degrees in engineering and management from the Polytechnic University of New York and in business from Columbia University. Stevens is a graduate of the Defense Department's Systems Management College Program Management course and served in the Marine Corps.

In a separate announcement, Christopher Kubasik was appointed executive vice president and chief financial officer of Lockheed Martin.
