HHS taps Unisys for integrated message system

Unisys Corp. has won a five-year, $31 million contract from the Health and Human Services Department for an integrated messaging system, the company announced today.

Unisys of Blue Bell, Pa., will build a secure e-mail system that will link the department's 70,000 employees, boost its crisis response capabilities and facilitate employee collaboration. The contract was signed in February, the company said.

The new common directory, which is based on Microsoft Exchange messaging software, will let department employees locate colleagues anywhere within the agency, create mass and customized e-mails more easily and store critical documents for access by authorized users.

The approach is expected to reduce delays and put critical information at the fingertips of those who need it, according to the company.

Unisys, a provider of consulting, systems integration, outsourcing, and infrastructure and server technology, has more than 37,000 employees and annual sales of $5.9 billion. The company was ranked No. 28 on Washington Technology's 2004 Top 100 List, which measures federal contracting revenue.
