RSIS wins Agriculture mapping deal

RS Information Systems Inc. won a $4.8 million prime technology conversion contract from the Agriculture Department's Farm Service Agency, the company said today.

RSIS will support the agency's aerial photography field office. The company will convert manually delineated farm boundary information into topological, structured data sets of common land-unit boundaries.

The work will create a single data file for each U.S. county used for the Agriculture Department's geographic information system database-driven application processing.

Pixxures Inc., a privately held online mapping services based in Arvada, Colo., is a partner on the contract. Both will complete most of the contract's work by the end of this year.

Based in McLean, Va., RSIS is a privately held company that provides information technology, systems engineering and technical assistance, telecommunications services, scientific support services and management consulting to federal government agencies. It employs approximately 1,700 people and had 2003 revenue of $260 million.
