GSA schedules Networx conference

The General Services Administration will present its revised strategy for the Federal Technology Service Networx contract at an industry conference from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Aug. 11 at the Hilton McClean Tysons Corner Hotel in McLean, Va.

The $10 billion governmentwide telecommunications and network services program will replace the government's current FTS 2001 contract for telecom services, which expires in 2006.

GSA will publish the conference agenda this week, John Johnson, assistant commissioner for service delivery at FTS, said.

The morning session of the conference will consist of all-government presentations, industry-government panel discussions will be in the afternoon, Johnson said.

FTS Commissioner Sandra Bates will give the opening remarks, and Johnson will discuss the general strategy for Networx as well as the program's goals, objectives and vision. GSA's Networx program manager and deputy program manager will discuss its strategy in more detail, along with specific issues such as ubiquity of service and security, Johnson said.

The Industry Advisory Council will assist GSA in administering the conference. IAC is an arm of the American Council for Technology, an organization for IT executives and government leaders.
