GD gets Navy nod for $21.5 million

General Dynamics Corp. won a $21.5 million contract modification from the Navy to continue systems integration work and develop enhanced capabilities for the submarine modernization system program, the company said today.

Under the program, called Acoustic Rapid Commercial-off-the-shelf Insertion, General Dynamics' Advanced Information Systems business unit will perform systems integration engineering, architectural design, software engineering, development, integration and testing. The work will be done in Fairfax, Va., and Anaheim, Calif.

The program allows the Navy to upgrade its legacy submarine combat capability through annual software enhancements and periodic hardware upgrades. It has helped the Navy establish open architecture requirements. The capabilities and systems are on nearly all Navy submarines and many surface ships.

The overall contract runs through December 2008 and is potentially worth $250 million, including the modification work.

Based in Arlington, Va., General Dynamics Advanced Information Systems produces transformational command, control, communications, computers, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance mission solutions for defense, intelligence and homeland security customers.

General Dynamics Corp. of Falls Church, Va., provides mission-critical information systems and technologies, combat systems, armaments and munitions, shipbuilding and marine systems and business aviation to federal and commercial clients. It employs 68,400 workers worldwide and had revenue of $16.6 billion in 2003.
