FTS looks to combine offices

The General Services Administration's Federal Technology Service will combine its service development and service delivery offices into a single entity called the Office of Global Network Solutions in approximately two to three months, John Johnson, assistant commissioner for service delivery at the agency's Federal Technology Service, told Washington Technology today.

FTS' Office of Service Delivery provides a range of domestic and international telecom network solutions to the federal government and other authorized users at competitive prices.

"It was time for us to look at combining [the two divisions] because they both work closely together," Johnson said, adding that FTS officials believed it was necessary to discuss the broader range of communications services that it supplies to 192 countries.

Johnson also said he wasn't certain the reorganization would have any major impact on federal contractors, but that it would provide them with one-stop shopping rather than having to communicate with the two separate offices.

Johnson stressed that the reorganization has not yet been finalized and discussions with the agency's chain of command had yet to take place.

"We are in the midst of putting the details behind the planning and discussions with parties who may be impacted," he said.
