Defense comptroller moving to private sector

Larry Lanzillotta, who became acting defense comptroller when Dov Zahkeim retired in April, is leaving the Defense Department July 16 to begin working for Northrop Grumman Corp.

After three years with the department, Lanzillotta decided to join the private sector.

The Senate has not approved Tina Jonas, who was nominated by President Bush in March to become the new undersecretary of defense for finance and comptroller, replacing Zakheim.

"Pending Senate confirmation, we anticipate that she will be able to assume the duties of under secretary immediately. In the absence of confirmation, the department has developed contingency plans," according to a Pentagon spokesperson.

Jonas is FBI chief financial officer and assistant director of its finance division.
