Kentucky taps Network Appliance for Internet security

Network Appliance Inc. has won a contract from the Kentucky Governors' Office for Technology to provide Internet security solutions, the company announced today. The contract value was not disclosed.

Network Appliance of Sunnyvale, Calif., and its subcontractor, CyberGuard Corp. of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., will offer Internet filtering and security for more than 40,000 employees in the state's executive branch.

The companies will provide the state with a solution based on CyberGuard's Webwasher Integrated Content Security Management suite of content security solutions and Net Appliance's NetCache Web delivery and security appliances. The solution is expected to go live in 90 days, the companies said.

A key factor in the award was the integration of spam filtering, anti-virus protection, URL and content blocking in one solution, they said.

Net Appliance, a network-attached storage systems provider, has about 2,345 employees and annual sales of $1.1 billion, according to Hoover's Online of Austin, Texas.

CyberGuard, a network security provider, has about 140 employees and annual sales of $33 million, according to Hoover's Online.
