Navy creates $10 billion systems support vehicle

The Naval Sea Systems Command has awarded 151 systems support contracts that could be worth more than $10 billion jointly.

The SeaPort Enhanced indefinite-delivery, indefinite-quantity contracts will help the Naval Surface Warfare Center and the Naval Undersea Warfare Center with systems engineering, acquisition management, and technical and programming support.

The contractors?48 large companies, 102 small business and one nonprofit?will head up teams to vie for 75,000 task orders. Each of 151 contracts has a five-year base period and two five-year options.

The project falls under the Navy Seapower 21 initiative, which seeks to improve the service's future readiness and increase efficiency. To meet the Seapower 21 objectives, the warfare centers have integrated support in 12 core product areas:

• Force-level warfare systems


• Ships systems


• Surface ship combat systems


• Littoral warfare systems


• Strategic weapons systems


• Ordnance


• Undersea warfare command and control systems


• Undersea warfare weapons and vehicles


• Undersea warfare ranges, analysis and assessment


• Undersea warfare fleet materiel readiness


• Homeland security and force protection


• Surface warfare logistics and maintenance.
