Former Kentucky CIO joins Oracle

Oracle Corp. has hired former Kentucky chief information officer Aldona Valicenti as vice president of business development and strategy, the company announced this month.

Valicenti, who is well known in the state and local contracting community for her work with the Lexington, Ky.-based National Association of State Chief Information Officers, will assist Oracle's state and local government team in developing relationships with states and their CIOs.

Valicenti resigned as Kentucky CIO Nov. 30 after serving for six years as a member of Gov. Paul Patton's cabinet. During her tenure with the Bluegrass State, Valicenti established the CIO position and created the governor's Office for Technology while transforming how IT services are delivered in state government.

Before she became Kentucky CIO, Valicenti worked for Dow Corning Corp. and Amoco Corp. She is a former NASCIO president and was the first to receive the association's meritorious service established last year. Her work at NASCIO helped elevate the association as a voice for states at the national and congressional levels.

Oracle, a provider of enterprise software, has about 40,650 employees and annual sales of $9.4 billion, according to Hoover's Online of Austin, Texas.
