Kane to lead software consortium

James Kane, former CEO of Federal Sources Inc., has been appointed president and chief executive officer of the Software Productivity Consortium, the group announced Dec. 17.

Also joining the consortium is Tushar Hazra, who was named chief technology officer, effective Dec. 8. Hazra most recently was president and CEO of EpitomiOne, an enterprise architecture integrator.

Kane succeeds Werner Schaer, who is retiring in January, though he will continue to serve on the consortium's board of directors.

The consortium is a nonprofit partnership of business, academic and government interests that share knowledge to encourage development of processes, tools and methods to create software, Kane said. The consortium looks to create economies of scale and efficiency that will make software development a more manageable process, he said.

Kane left FSI after heading up the McLean, Va., market research firm for three year. Washington Management Group, a Washington-based consulting company, purchased FSI in October.

FSI, in turn, has announced that Joe Caggiano has been appointed chief operating officer, responsible for operations and financial activities at the company, including its consulting, database and events lines of business. Caggiano, son of WMG Chairman Paul Caggiano, has worked in sales management and business development roles at Deloitte Consulting, Arthur Andersen, WR Grace and Pfizer.
