General Dynamics Corp. has won a $36.6 million contract from the Navy to provide engineering and technical services and production for the multi-purpose processor program for submarines.

Under the terms of the contract, General Dynamics' advanced information systems unit will provide engineering and technical services and associated materials for the design and development of upgrades, systems support and production.

The submarine program is a combination of hardware and software that enables submarines to process data collected by towed and hull sonar arrays. The processed data provides information regarding the location of other nearby vessels, increasing the survivability and lethality of the submarine. The program is installed on several classes of submarine and is a major subsystem of the Acoustic Rapid Commercial Off-The-Shelf Insertion system.

The contract continues work previously provided by Digital Systems Resources Inc., which was acquired by General Dynamics in September.

Based in Falls Church, Va., General Dynamics has about 66,900 employees and projects 2003 revenue of approximately $16.1 billion, more than 16 percent higher than 2002 revenue of $13.8 billion. The company was ranked No. 7 on the 2003 Washington Technology Top 100.
